Romanization — and when to ignore it

Revised Romanization vs what you will see on signs, passports, and K-pop.

Official system

South Korea’s official Revised Romanization (2000) writes ㄱ as g/k, ㅓ as eo, ㅡ as eu. Street signs mostly follow it: 서울 Seoul, 부산 Busan. Passports and older books may still use McCune–Reischauer (ŏ, ŭ).

K-pop stylizations (aespa, SEVENTEEN) are brands, not lessons. For study, pick one system and hangul-first: romanization is a bridge you should be able to put down.
