K-pop album versions compared: photobook vs digipack vs Weverse Albums vs KiTK-pop 앨범 버전 비교 — 포토북·디지팩·위버스 앨범·키트
A single comeback can ship as five or six versions. They share the tracklist; they differ in printed matter, photocard pools, weight and price. Decide by what you actually want to keep.
Version by version
| Version | What is inside | Size / weight | Price tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photobook version (포토북) | CD + photobook (often 60–100+ pages) + random photocards + poster or folded poster + stickers/postcards | Largest and heaviest (typically a few hundred grams) | Highest | The standard "full" version; multiple photobook concepts per release |
| Digipack / Compact (디지팩) | CD in a slim cardboard sleeve + a smaller booklet + fewer photocards | Light, thin | Mid | Cheaper way to own the CD and a card; often member-specific covers |
| Jewel case (쥬얼케이스) | CD in a plastic case + mini booklet + usually one photocard | Lightest physical version | Lowest | Budget option; common for repackages and Japan editions |
| Weverse Albums version | No CD. QR/NFC card + photocards; music unlocks in the Weverse Albums app | Very light, card-sized | Mid–low | Platform album; counts as a physical sale on Korean charts |
| KiT / kihno album | A small device or card you tap to a phone to play the album + photocards | Light | Mid | Another platform-album format; popular for streaming-first fans |
| POCA / Nemo / other platform albums | Card-sized album that unlocks in a dedicated app + photocards | Very light | Mid–low | Formats vary by label; check which app is required |
| Pre-order benefit (POB) photocard | Not a version — an extra card added by a specific store during pre-order | n/a | Included with pre-order | Different stores give different POB cards; the album inside is the same |
Weights and price tiers are relative descriptions, not a specific release’s spec sheet. Check the store listing for exact dimensions.
How charts count them
| Hanteo Chart | Counts sales in real time from registered “Hanteo Family” stores; the basis for many first-week (초동) totals fans quote. |
|---|---|
| Circle Chart (formerly Gaon) | Counts albums shipped to retailers, published weekly and monthly; platform albums (Weverse Albums, KiT, POCA) are included in album totals. |
| Music shows | Each broadcast uses its own formula that may weight physical sales differently; a version choice does not change the score. |
Buying strategy without waste
- Want the music and one card? A jewel case or a platform album is enough.
- Want a specific member’s photocard? Check which version’s pool includes it; trading is cheaper than buying every version. See photocard trading etiquette.
- Shipping abroad? Two photobook albums can cost more to post than the albums themselves; digipacks and platform albums cut that.
- Unopened extras pile up. Fan cafés in Seoul collect unwanted albums; see album unpacking.
