Dewy vs Matte Korean Base

The dewy base

Dewy is the default mood of Korean makeup, tied closely to the glass-skin ideal. A dewy base looks luminous and moist, reflecting light to support a healthy, youthful glow. It flatters normal-to-dry skin and photographs beautifully, but on very oily skin or in heat it can slide. Korean dewy cushions and glow foundations, paired with hydrating prep like essences and snail mucin, build that fresh, lit-from-within finish.

The matte base

A matte base minimizes shine for a smooth, velvety surface. It suits oily or combination skin and holds up better in humidity, making it practical for long days or hot climates. Korean 'matte' tends to be soft and skin-like rather than flat and heavy — often a 'blur' or semi-matte finish rather than a full powder mask. Set with a light, finely-milled powder only where you get oily to keep it natural.
