Aegyo-sal Under-Eye Makeup (애교살) 애교살
Aegyo-sal (애교살) is the small, puffy ridge just below the lower lash line that Koreans accentuate for a cute, youthful, smiling look. Highlight the ridge with a light shimmer shadow and add a soft shadow line beneath it. This subtle technique supports brighter, friendlier-looking eyes.
What aegyo-sal is
Aegyo-sal (애교살), literally 'charm fat,' is the natural roll of fullness right under the lower lash line that appears when you smile. In Korea it's seen as cute and youthful because it makes the eyes look bigger and warmer. Rather than hiding it, K-makeup celebrates and enhances it — distinct from eye bags, which sit lower and create a shadow. Done well, accentuating aegyo-sal supports a soft, friendly, smiling expression.
How to create the look
Smile to find your natural aegyo-sal ridge. Sweep a light, slightly shimmery shadow or a dedicated aegyo-sal pencil along the top of that ridge to catch light and make it pop. Then, using a soft brown shadow or a fine pencil, draw a faint shadow line just beneath the ridge and blend it well to mimic a natural crease. The contrast of highlight above and soft shadow below gives the puff dimension.
Keeping it natural
Subtlety is everything — the line below should look like a gentle shadow, not a harsh stripe, so blend thoroughly and choose a shade only a little deeper than your skin. Pearly champagne or soft pink highlights flatter most people and read fresh on camera. Korean dual-ended aegyo-sal pencils (highlighter on one end, shadow liner on the other) make the technique quick. Pair with a soft straight brow and gradient lip for a cohesive K-makeup look.
