Korean Monolid Eye Makeup (무쌍 메이크업) 무쌍 메이크업
Korean monolid (무쌍) eye makeup works with a lidless eye shape using horizontal gradient shadow, tightlined eyes, and a slightly extended liner. Build color so it shows with eyes open, keep liner close to the lashes, and add soft lower-lash shadow. The look supports defined, brighter-looking eyes.
Understanding the monolid
A monolid (무쌍, short for 무쌍꺼풀) has little or no visible crease, so makeup applied in the socket may not show when the eyes are open. Korean monolid techniques account for this by placing and blending color where it actually reads, and by building gentle definition. The goal isn't to imitate a double lid but to flatter the natural shape — clean, defined, and bright.
Shadow and liner technique
Apply shadow in a horizontal gradient: a wash of soft color across the lid, deepening the shade toward the lash line and slightly above it so it stays visible with eyes open. Tightline the upper waterline and draw liner close to the lashes, keeping it thin near the inner eye and gently extending and lifting at the outer corner. A touch of the same shadow under the lower lashes adds depth. Curled lashes and mascara open the eye further.
Shade and finish tips
Muted browns, peaches, roses and soft mauves suit everyday monolid looks, while a hint of shimmer at the center of the lid catches light and adds dimension. Match tones to your personal color — warm browns for warm seasons, cool taupes and roses for cool seasons. Korean shadow palettes from brands like CLIO, Etude and rom&nd are built around exactly these blendable, gradient-friendly tones, making the monolid look easy to recreate.
