🕌 Halal & Muslim-friendly Korea

Seoul’s Itaewon and some university areas have clear halal options. Outside those hubs, learn the key phrases and stick to seafood or vegetarian dishes.

Where to start

Itaewon (Seoul Central Mosque area), Dongdaemun, and some Hongdae spots list halal certification. Busan has growing options near Nampo and universities.

Airport & prayer

ICN has prayer rooms — follow “Prayer Room” signs after arrivals. Seoul Central Mosque is in Itaewon; dress modestly for visits.

Menu language

Say 돼지고기 빼 주세요 (no pork) and 알코올 없는 걸로 (no alcohol). Many broths use pork — ask. More phrases: phrases.

Safe defaults

Seafood grilled fish, plain rice, fruit, bakery items without lard, and Indian/Turkish restaurants. Convenience-store labels often mark ingredients in Korean only — scan carefully.

Ramadan notes

Suhoor/iftar timing follows local sunset. Hotel fridges help. Daytime café culture is open as usual.

Certification can change — verify on the restaurant’s own listing the week you go.
