A Welcome Boost from Laotian Workers
Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province has reported significant improvements in agricultural productivity, thanks to the diligent efforts of seasonal workers from Muang Phatthana, Laos. These workers have been instrumental during the farming peak season, engaging in various tasks such as melon planting, strawberry and potato harvesting, and fertilizer application in orchards since their arrival on February 22nd.
With an average age of 34, these Laotian workers are notably younger and more efficient compared to local labor, enhanced by pre-arrival agricultural training. Their reliability and speed have led to increasing adoption among local farmers, easing the chronic labor shortages that have plagued the region.
Continuous Monitoring to Safeguard Workers’ Rights
Local authorities have underscored their commitment to protecting the rights of these workers by conducting regular inspections at work sites. This proactive approach ensures that the Laotian labor force is treated fairly, maintaining high ethical standards in employment practices.
