Genesis GV80 Coupe: A New Entrant in the Coupe-Style SUV Market

Genesis has made its foray into the coupe-style SUV segment with the launch of the ‘GV80 Coupe,’ blending sporty aesthetics with the utility of an SUV. The redesign of the traditional GV80 includes a streamlined roofline, lending the vehicle a dynamic appearance, while preserving the comfort of a premium sedan.

Evolution of the GV80: Introducing the Coupe

Introduced in 2020, the GV80 was Genesis’s first SUV. A significant facelift in September of the previous year introduced the GV80 Coupe as a new derivative of the existing model. While the original GV80 presents a robust appearance, the Coupe variant emphasizes refinement and style, although at the expense of reduced trunk space.

Design Comparison with Competitors

Compared to competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6, the GV80 Coupe opts for subtlety over boldness. Its character lines, which gently slope downwards, contrast with the aggressive styling seen in its rivals. This design choice reflects Hyundai’s philosophy of ‘dynamic elegance’ that shapes Genesis’s styling direction.

Enhanced Dimensions for a Roomier Experience

The GV80 Coupe has grown slightly in size compared to the standard model, offering more space inside. It measures 4,965 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width, and stands 1,710 mm tall, with a wheelbase extended by 25 mm to 2,955 mm. Despite a smaller trunk volume of 644 liters, the cabin space, especially the second-row headroom, remains comfortably spacious.

Luxurious and Technologically Advanced Interior

The interior of the GV80 Coupe is designed with luxury and technology in mind. A 27-inch horizontal display serves dual purposes as an instrument cluster and central display. Quality materials such as leather and suede cover most touchpoints, and even the center console armrest is heated, enhancing passenger comfort.

Power and Performance: Engine Options and Driving Experience

The GV80 Coupe is available with multiple engine options, including a 2.5-liter turbo, a 3.5-liter turbo, and a mild-hybrid version of the 3.5-liter turbo. The test vehicle, equipped with the 3.5-liter turbo engine, provides robust power and torque, ensuring a responsive and comfortable driving experience, reminiscent of driving a high-end sedan.

Advanced Driving Technologies for Enhanced Comfort

Genesis incorporates several advanced technologies in the GV80 Coupe, such as a Preview Electronic Control Suspension that adjusts based on anticipated road conditions, and a Crosswind Stability Control for improved stability at high speeds. These features contribute to a smooth and refined driving experience.

Competitive Pricing in the Luxury SUV Market

The GV80 Coupe starts at a competitive price point, especially when compared to its more expensive counterparts like the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6. While the Coupe variant is priced higher than the standard GV80, its advanced features and elegant design provide significant value, making it a compelling option for luxury SUV buyers.
