When two captions disagree by about one year, fans often mixed counting systems. KoreaPlus age tables use international (만) age from a published birth date unless a page explicitly says otherwise.
- International age: 0 at birth; increases on each birthday.
- Traditional Korean counting: often 1 at birth; many people historically added a year on lunar/solar New Year rather than on the birthday. This was never a single universal rule — habits differed by family and era.
- Civil shift: from June 2023, South Korea aligned many official age references to international age. Everyday speech and older articles may still use the older habit.
- Practical tip: if a source says only “born in 2002,” ask for month/day before asserting an exact age on a specific date.
