T-money Card

T-money (티머니) is Korea's rechargeable transit card — one card covers the Seoul subway, city and express buses, taxis and even convenience-store payments. It's the first thing to buy on arrival: rides cost ₩100 less than single tickets and free transfers (up to 5) are included.

How to Experience T-money Card

1. Buy at any GS25 or CU convenience store for ₩3,000 deposit (returnable at some locations).
2. Load with any amount (minimum ₩1,000) — reload at convenience store cash registers or station kiosks.
3. Tap on entry and exit for subways; tap once for buses.
4. Transfer between subway and bus within 30 minutes for free (or discounted) connections.
5. Refund unused balance at T-money service counters at major subway stations (small fee applies).

• Kakao Pay, Samsung Pay, and Apple Pay can link T-money function — but physical card is more reliable.
• T-money works on intercity express buses (고속버스) at most terminals — very convenient.
• Check remaining balance at bus card readers or station turnstiles before boarding.
• Special edition T-money cards (characters, designs) are sold at major stations — popular souvenirs.
• You can use the same T-money card for KTX if you load enough — but keep a separate amount for transport.
• NFC-enabled smartphones can use Mobile T-money — download T-money app and register your card.
• If card balance runs low mid-journey, you can still exit but must pay the deficit next time you tap in.
