The Seoul Metro is one of the largest subway systems in the world, with 23 lines and 700+ stations. Expect 99.9% on-time operation, full air-conditioning, free WiFi and English announcements throughout. It reaches virtually every sight in Seoul, with trains every 2–3 minutes at rush hour.

How to Experience Seoul Metro

1. Buy a T-money card (티머니) at any GS25, CU, or 7-Eleven for ₩3,000 deposit — charge with any amount.
2. Tap card on entry and exit turnstiles — fares are distance-based, starting at ₩1,400.
3. Download Naver Maps or KakaoMap for real-time subway navigation with transfer instructions.
4. Follow colour-coded lines: Line 1 (Dark Blue), 2 (Green), 3 (Orange), 4 (Sky Blue), 5–9 and more.
5. Stand to the right on escalators, walk on the left — this is enforced etiquette.

• T-money card works on Seoul Metro, all city buses, intercity buses, and most taxis nationwide.
• Avoid Line 2 (the busiest) during 08:00–09:30 and 18:00–19:30 — dangerously crowded.
• Line 9 (급행, express) skips stations between Gayang and Sinnonhyeon — use for fast Gimpo Airport connections.
• AREX (공항철도) to Incheon Airport departs from Seoul Station every 30–40 minutes.
• Pink "Women-only" carriages (여성전용칸) are at the front of each train — respected during rush hours.
• Most stations have free lockers in B1/B2 — useful for day trips from Seoul.
