Gyeongju

경주 is Korea's open-air museum — ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom (57 BC – 935 AD) for nearly 1,000 years. Burial mounds dot the city like green hills, UNESCO temples sit in mountain forests, and the city holds more National Treasures than anywhere else in Korea. It's called "the museum without walls."

How to Experience Gyeongju

1. Travel from Seoul via KTX to Singyeongju Station (2hr) or Gyeongju Station (2hr 30min).
2. Rent a bicycle — Gyeongju is Korea's best cycling city with paths connecting all major sites.
3. Day 1: Bulguksa Temple (morning) + Seokguram Grotto + Gyeongju National Museum.
4. Day 2: Tumuli Park (enter Cheonmachong burial mound) + Cheomseongdae + Anapji Pond at sunset.
5. Day 3: Yangdong Folk Village (UNESCO) + Bomun Lake cycling.
