Moisturiser: the layer that makes the rest of it stick
Moisturiser seals in the hydration you have layered underneath and supplies the lipids skin needs to hold it. Every skin type needs one — oily skin included, and skipping it is one of the more reliable ways to make oiliness worse.
What it actually does
A moisturiser combines humectants that hold water, emollients that smooth the surface, and occlusives that slow evaporation. Without that last part, the hydration from your toner and essence leaves faster than it arrived.
Oily skin needs it too
Skipping moisturiser to control shine backfires: a compromised barrier frequently produces more oil. A light gel-cream is the answer, not no cream.
Texture by season
Korean routines shift textures rather than changing philosophy — a gel-cream in humid summer, a richer cream in dry winter. Same steps, different weight.
What to look for
Ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids together for barrier support. Glycerin and hyaluronic acid for hydration. Fragrance-free if your skin reacts at all.
