Octocrylene in summer: how to adjust
Using Octocrylene in summer: the season brings heat, humidity, sweat and peak UV, so what changes is texture, frequency and what you layer around it — not usually whether you use it at all.
Rarely the star of a sunscreen and usually the reason the rest of it survives daylight. Octocrylene is a UVB filter that also props up avobenzone, the classic UVA filter that falls apart in sun without help. Korea, the EU and the US all permit it up to 10%. It is oily, so high levels are a texture trade-off.
What summer does to your skin
Heat, humidity, sweat and excess oil call for lightweight, fast-absorbing layers and a high, re-applied sunscreen.
How that changes Octocrylene
Summer rewards lighter textures and punishes anything occlusive. Strength of active matters less than whether it survives a humid day. Octocrylene works on sun damage & photoageing, and it is normally applied AM.
