Injectables: what to disclose, what to expect, what is an emergency
Around injectable treatments the important skincare adjustments are small and the important disclosures are large — tell the injector every medication and supplement you take and let them decide what matters, rather than pausing anything yourself. Afterwards clinics commonly restrict pressure, heat, exercise and makeup over injection points for a period they specify. Some complications are genuine emergencies, so knowing the warning signs before you book is part of preparing sensibly.
Disclose, do not self-adjust
Certain medications and supplements are widely discussed as making bruising more likely — blood thinners, some pain relievers, fish oil, ginkgo and others. The correct move is to list everything you take at the consultation and let the injector and, where relevant, your own doctor decide. Stopping a prescribed medication before a cosmetic appointment is not a decision to make yourself, and no article should be the reason you do. Bring an actual list rather than trying to remember, including anything taken occasionally.
What the skincare side looks like
Modest. Clinics commonly ask patients to keep injection points clean, avoid makeup over them for a specified period, and avoid pressing, massaging or lying face-down on the treated area — including during facials and massages, which people book without thinking. Heat is restricted for the same reasons it is after other procedures, so 찜질방 (jjimjilbang) visits, saunas and hard training are usually postponed. Actives generally pause briefly. Beyond that, your normal gentle routine and sunscreen resume when the clinic says so.
The warning signs that mean act now
Skin turning white, grey, mottled or dusky after a filler injection, pain out of proportion to what was expected, or any change in vision are reasons to contact the clinic immediately and seek urgent medical attention. These are recognised emergencies where time matters, and they are not something to research first. Know the clinic's out-of-hours contact before you are injected, not afterwards. Bruising, swelling and tenderness are common and different; anything that is worsening rather than settling still warrants a call.
Questions worth asking before you book
What exactly is being injected, under which name and by whom — Korean clinics offer a wide menu of injectable categories and the labels used in marketing are often looser than the labels used in medicine. Ask who performs the injection and what their qualification is. Ask what happens if there is a complication after you fly home, because the answer is often that you will be relying on a doctor where you live. A clinic that answers all of that plainly is a better sign than a discount.
