The cleanser that taught a generation of readers what cleanser pH means. It is a mildly acidic gel that foams lightly, includes a small amount of BHA and tea tree oil, and rinses without the tight squeak of a traditional alkaline foaming wash. Its importance is historical as much as practical: it made low-pH cleansing a mainstream expectation. As a daily gel cleanser it remains competent, cheap and widely available.

Oily and combination skin that wants a morning cleanse which does not strip, and anyone whose skin has been irritated by high-pH foaming washes. It is a reasonable second cleanse in the evening too. Dry and very sensitive skin may still find it slightly brisk and be happier with a milk or cream cleanser, particularly in winter.
How to use it
A small amount on damp skin, massaged for around thirty seconds, then rinsed lukewarm. Fine morning and evening. In the evening use it after an oil or balm rather than instead of one. There is no benefit to leaving it sitting on the face — the low pH is about how it rinses, not about doing something while it waits.
