Many Korean cosmetics carry a notification or filing number tied to Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) cosmetic system. It is a regulatory trace, not a gold-star 'clinically proven' badge and not a guarantee the formula matches a viral review. Counterfeits sometimes copy numbers badly or reuse photos of real boxes. Use it as one authenticity check alongside seller reputation, seals, and print quality.
What notification means
Cosmetics in Korea are notified in a system that records the responsible company and product. It is not the same as a drug approval. Functional cosmetics (기능성화장품) have extra claims and documentation for specified categories such as sunscreen — still not a personal medical endorsement.
How to use it as a shopper
A missing, smudged, or mismatched number on a 'too cheap' marketplace listing is a warning. A present number on a grey-market bottle is not proof by itself. Compare packaging to a known authentic example when you can.
What it will not tell you
It will not tell you whether you will like the texture, whether the batch is fresh, or whether the English sticker is an official export version. Those are separate questions (dates, seller, language of the INCI).
Stay in the cosmetic lane
