Retinaldehyde (Retinal) for acne-prone skin
Is Retinaldehyde (Retinal) good for acne-prone skin?
The middle rung of the retinoid ladder. Because it needs fewer conversion steps than retinol, it is generally considered more potent at the same percentage — start low, go slow, and always pair it with sunscreen the next morning. Retinoids are also the one category conventionally avoided altogether in pregnancy and breastfeeding: here, 'caution' means skip it until after.
Why it suits acne-prone skin
- One conversion step closer to retinoic acid than retinol
- Often described as working faster than retinol at similar tolerance
