How Omija (Schisandra) works 오미자
Schisandra berry contains lignans, notably schisandrin, alongside organic acids and polyphenols. In laboratory work these show antioxidant activity, which is the basis for the cosmetic framing around environmental protection and the look of brighter skin. Almost none of that work involves applying a diluted cosmetic extract to human faces, so the gap between the biochemistry and the bathroom shelf remains wide. The berry's Korean name refers to its five tastes, and the compounds behind those flavours are the same ones cosmetic chemists find interesting — which at least makes the heritage framing coherent.

🙋 People also ask
How long does Korean skincare take to work?
Most skincare, Korean or otherwise, needs time. Hydration benefits can appear quickly, but visible changes in tone, texture or fine lines typically take several weeks to a few months of consistent use, roughly one skin cycle or more. Sun protection and patience matter more than any single product.
Does Korean skincare work for deeper skin tones?
The skincare does — hydration, barrier support and soothing actives are not tone-specific. The friction points are mineral sunscreens that leave a cast and a colour-cosmetics shade range that has historically been narrow.
