What duty-free actually removes

Where the maths fails
Korean drugstore brands are the clearest example. Their street and online prices are already low and frequently promoted with 1+1 bundles, so duty-free rarely beats simply walking into a multi-brand shop. Luxury and department-store lines are the opposite case: they hold price, so removing tax leaves a visible gap. If your list is mostly sunscreen, cleansers and cheap essences, skip the duty-free hall. If it is a prestige serum you buy annually anyway, it is worth a look.
Allowances and paperwork
Your home country sets what you may bring in without declaring, and those allowances vary by destination and sometimes by how long you were away. Exceeding them means declaring and paying, which erases the saving and then some. Some markets also restrict quantities of cosmetics that look like commercial import rather than personal use. The practical friction
Airport duty-free often carries a narrower range than online duty-free, which typically requires ordering in advance and collecting at departure. Sets are common and rarely splittable, so you may be buying two things to get one. Liquids rules apply if you have a connecting flight with a security re-screen, and sealed duty-free bags are not universally accepted on transfer.
